Dog sitting via Skype

There is a great story here about using your Skype connection and a video camera as a dog watching device for when you are away from home.

A video web cam is focused on the dog's bed so that you can call into it (the camera not the dog) using Skype 2.0

It uses a regular webcam (Logitech QuickCam) which is plugged it into a spare laptop (you can use any computer that is always online). Download Skype 2.0 and create a new profile in Skype. Set it to auto-answer since the dog can't click the button to answer the call. Next just point the camera to what you want and whenever you want to see/hear what's going on, just use Skype to call the laptop. It's that simple.

The "answer calls automatically" button can be found in the pop up you get at through tools/options/advanced.

You will be able to access this from anywhere in the world via your Skype connection.
